About the Board

Like most other school boards, the Windham Public Schools board of education (BOE) plays a pivotal role in the administration of teaching and learning in the local community. As the governing body of the district's school system, the Windham BOE provides the overall vision for the district, a vision that ensures that all students have an equal opportunity to develop their academic potentials and to be successful in their life's pursuits. The board monitors the design and implementation of the district's policies and procedures with a view to ensuring that teaching and learning are geared toward maximizing each child's potential.

The board of education is the principal policy-making body for the Windham Public Schools system and it has final authority on all major policy and legal matters in the district, including:

- Overall policy for the district
- The setting of goals for the district
- Financial responsibility for the district
- All legal matters involving the district
- Adoption of negotiated bargaining
  agreements
- Referendums for public vote
- Approval of textbooks and curriculum

Board of Education Chair & Superintendent of Schools
Open Office Hours

The Chairman of the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Windham Public Schools will hold open office hours for community members, staff and students who wish to discuss issues with policy implications.  Suggestions, new ideas and/or opinions may be shared during this time.

It is preferred, though not required, that anyone who wishes to attend make an appointment.  If the policy is known before the scheduled meeting, it will allow the chair and the superintendent to better prepare for the meeting.

If a community member, staff or student has a particular issue with a specific decision or administrator, it would not be appropriate to discuss this during “Open Office Hours”.  Specific situations should be dealt with through the normal procedures for resolving complaints.

“Open Office Hours” will be publicized in the following manner:
      Press release
      Alert Now
      Posting on public access television
      Flyer sent home with students
      E-mail sent to staff
Posting to the Windham Public School website
