Welcome to the Windham High School Career Academies web page. Beginning
with the 2009-2010 school year, tenth grade students will have signed up for one
of three career based academies. The three academies are:

Business and Information Technology Academy (BITA)
Fine Arts and Human Services Academy (FAHSA)
Science, Engineering, and Technology Academy (SETA)

Career Academies are small learning communities at the high school level that group students with similar career interests with a dedicated team of teachers. Each career academy has a specific career theme based on the career clusters. The Career Academies are based on the concept of a school within a school. The smaller learning community allows for a more personalized educational experience for the students and integrates curriculum with careers. Involvement of local businesses and industry members will be utilized through the development of job shadowing and career internships. It is an authentic link to learning real world practices and creating personalized relevance for our students.

Student selection of these academies happens with the ninth grade Skills for Life course (formerly Career Exploration). In this course, students begin to explore interests and careers and begin to create an individual career pathway through the use of interest inventories, links to background knowledge, explored personality profiles, and career searches. The outcome of this process is the individual Student Success Plan. The success plan will allow the student to see which courses she/he must take in order to reach her/his career and academic goals.
